Me and my boyfriend are building a beer pong table, but the piece of wood we bought doesn’t give any bounce. What material would work best to cover the wood and get plenty of bounce without making the table too heavy? (we want it to be portable)

can you find a scrap piece of glass (or 2 depending on the size of UR table) from a coffee table or something. They are pretty strong, would be easy to clean beer off of, you could put pics/etc under it, its perfectly flat and ping pong balls bounce like hell on it. put some trim on the sides of table so you can set the glass into it and take the glass pieces out when moving the table.

the other option is find a broken ping pong table and cut that up as your top.

also you could try to polyurathane it, that might make it bounce better and make the wood last.

There are so many different ways to play beer pong. Is there an official club somewhere?

Beer pong rules vary from group to group. A lot of common rules include reracking at 6 and 3 cups. 2 shots in the same cup mean drink all the cups around that cup. A bouncing shot means drink 2 cups. Bouncing can be guarded or unguarded. Bringbacks if you make your shot. Forget to wash ball means drink a cup. Any variation of these rules can be seen. Anyone who claims there is an official club is a dork.
